SAWANOHA Sencha Okumidori 50g
Sourced from a dedicated, single-origin tea farm in the volcanic highlands of Kirishima, Kagoshima, this Sencha expresses the purity and depth of one of Japan’s most respected tea terroirs. Grown in mineral-rich soils and harvested during the first harvest (Ichibancha) in mid-May 2025, it captures the season at its most vibrant.
The dry leaves are finely rolled into elegant, deep-green needles, reflecting careful craftsmanship and exceptional freshness. Once infused, the liquor reveals a clear, luminous jade-green color, bright and inviting in the cup.
On the nose, this Sencha offers a clean, refined aroma with notes of fresh greens, young herbs, and a soft marine sweetness characteristic of high-quality Okumidori. The taste is smooth and well-balanced, opening with gentle umami and evolving into a refreshing vegetal clarity, free of harshness or bitterness. The finish is long, silky, and quietly sweet.
Elegant yet approachable, this Kirishima Sencha is a pure expression of place, cultivar, and season — a tea designed for daily enjoyment as well as mindful moments of appreciation.
Brewing:
2 heaped tsp per 300ml, 60°C water. Steep for 2 minutes. Suitable for several infusions.
Packaging: Fully compostable Grass Paper Boxes
At Sawanoha we are also looking for ways to better ourselves to ensure that everything we do is as planet-positive as possible, and our grass paper cartons enable us to do just that.
We are very excited to lead the way in reducing some of the waste produced with our cutting edge grass packaging.
Our grass paper packaging is uniquely natural. It is 100% vegan, contains 0% chemicals and it is made with up to 50% natural grass fibres which are harvested close to the factory where the cartons are crafted.
This natural production process results in cartons that are not only FSC certified and fully recyclable, but also completely compostable in your home compost bin.
With nature playing a leading role in the production process, you will notice that no two cartons are the same. Each carries a unique grass speckled pattern.
Compared to wood pulp packaging, our new grass paper boxes save on water, save on energy use and reduce by 75% the amount of CO2 produced during production !!!
All of that from one little compostable box.
