SAWANOHA Genmaicha Otsuka 50g
Otsuka Genmaicha is a premium blend of high-grade Sencha and roasted brown rice (Genmai). The Genmai, which looks and smells a bit like popcorn, gives the tea a nutty flavour and a sweet, fresh after-taste. It reduces the caffeine content of the tea by half.
The Sencha used is of a much higher grade than in the usual genmaicha.
This particular type of Genmaicha tea has no bitterness, making it an ideal choice for those who prefer milder teas.
The contrast of the vibrant tea leaves and the golden-brown rice, with some kernels puffed into tiny white popcorn-like shapes, gives it a warm and rustic look.
When brewed, it produces a light yellow-green infusion with a gentle golden hue, reflecting both the freshness of green tea and the comforting character of roasted rice.
Character: Mild, grassy green tea notes balanced by the distinct, toasty, nutty aroma and taste of roasted rice, with subtle sweetness and minimal bitterness.
Terroir: Shizuoka, Japan
Tea farm: Otsuka family farm, single origin.
Harvest: 1st harvest (Ichibancha), mid-May 2025
Brewing:
2 heaped tsp per 300ml, 75-85°C water. Steep for 2 minutes.
Packaging: Fully compostable Grass Paper Boxes
At Sawanoha we are also looking for ways to better ourselves to ensure that everything we do is as planet-positive as possible, and our grass paper cartons enable us to do just that.
We are very excited to lead the way in reducing some of the waste produced with our cutting edge grass packaging.
Our grass paper packaging is uniquely natural. It is 100% vegan, contains 0% chemicals and it is made with up to 50% natural grass fibres which are harvested close to the factory where the cartons are crafted.
This natural production process results in cartons that are not only FSC certified and fully recyclable, but also completely compostable in your home compost bin.
With nature playing a leading role in the production process, you will notice that no two cartons are the same. Each carries a unique grass speckled pattern.
Compared to wood pulp packaging, our new grass paper boxes save on water, save on energy use and reduce by 75% the amount of CO2 produced during production !!!
All of that from one little compostable box.
