SAWANOHA Kamairicha Yabukita 50g
This partially roasted green tea is made of the Yabukita cultivar by teamaster Nagao, by turning the tea leaves in a large hot pan at a lower heat which makes the tea produce nutty notes of hazelnut with flavors of almonds, toasted cashews and roasted seaweed.
The result is a yellow-green, refreshing, smooth tea with a mildly roasted and rich flavor, with no astringency.
Only a few skillful tea growers still possess the expertise required to produce this tea.
Process: This unique tea is prepared according to an ancient procedure, introduced to Japan by the Chinese more than 500 years ago. There are not many tea producers anymore who produce this kind of tea. Kamairicha, means pot or kettle-roasted tea.
To prevent fermentation right after picking the tea, the tea is not heated by steaming it (temperature not exceeding 100°C) but by constantly stirring it in an iron pot (of which the surface temperature may rise to 300°C) or by heating it in a rotating stainless steel drum.
Character: The deep-roasting of the tea gives it its specific floral taste and beautiful aroma.
Terroir: Ureshino, Saga Prefecture, Kyushu island, Japan

Harvest: 1st harvest (Ichibancha), mid-May 2025

At Sawanoha we are also looking for ways to better ourselves to ensure that everything we do is as planet-positive as possible, and our grass paper cartons enable us to do just that.
We are very excited to lead the way in reducing some of the waste produced with our cutting edge grass packaging.
Our grass paper packaging is uniquely natural. It is 100% vegan, contains 0% chemicals and it is made with up to 50% natural grass fibres which are harvested close to the factory where the cartons are crafted.
This natural production process results in cartons that are not only FSC certified and fully recyclable, but also completely compostable in your home compost bin.
With nature playing a leading role in the production process, you will notice that no two cartons are the same. Each carries a unique grass speckled pattern.
Compared to wood pulp packaging, our new grass paper boxes save on water, save on energy use and reduce by 75% the amount of CO2 produced during production !!!
All of that from one little compostable box.
